Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has said the recent visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, to the United States has helped reset Nigeria’s global image and counter years of negative narratives about the country.

Ibrahim, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District, said the First Lady’s engagements in the US sent a strong message about Nigeria’s commitment to unity, tolerance, and responsible leadership on the global stage. According to him, the visit projected Nigeria as a nation willing to engage constructively with the international community while addressing misconceptions about its social and religious landscape.

He noted that Remi Tinubu’s interactions with political leaders, faith-based groups, and members of the Nigerian diaspora helped challenge claims of religious persecution and insecurity often associated with the country in foreign media and policy circles.

“The First Lady’s visit has helped to reset Nigeria’s global image by confronting false narratives and reaffirming the country’s values of peaceful coexistence and democracy,” Ibrahim said. “Her voice carried moral authority and credibility, which resonated with international partners.”

The senator added that such high-level engagements complement the Federal Government’s diplomatic efforts, stressing that soft power initiatives remain crucial in shaping international opinion and attracting foreign goodwill.

He urged other public officials to leverage similar platforms abroad to promote a balanced and accurate picture of Nigeria, noting that sustained engagement is necessary to counter misinformation and strengthen the nation’s standing globally.
