Recycling Can Boost Jobs, Foreign Exchange for Nigeria – NESREA DG
The Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Prof. Innocent Barikor, says investing in Nigeria’s circular economy can significantly increase foreign exchange earnings and create more jobs.
Barikor made this known during a recent meeting in Lagos with the management of Sonnex, a plastic packaging recycling company. According to NESREA’s Assistant Director of Press, Nwamaka Ejiofor, the DG emphasised that the government is committed to advancing the circular economy and has introduced the National Environmental (Plastic Waste Control) Regulations to strengthen its legal framework.
He noted that circular economy initiatives are part of the Federal Ministry of Environment’s top priorities, adding that the approach not only tackles waste problems but also generates employment opportunities in the green sector.
