The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that many Nigerian politicians are drawn to Rivers State primarily because of its vast financial resources.
Wike made the claim while reacting to recent political engagements surrounding the state, insisting that Rivers has become a constant attraction due to its economic strength rather than genuine concern for governance or stability.
In what appeared to be an indirect swipe, the former Rivers State governor took aim at the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Bashiru, following their recent visits to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Although Wike did not mention names directly, his comments suggested discomfort with what he described as increasing political interest in Rivers, warning that the state should not be reduced to a playground for power struggles fueled by financial incentives.
The remarks come amid lingering political tensions in Rivers State, as rival camps continue to jostle for influence in one of Nigeria’s most economically significant states.
