Police Foil ₦17m Fraud at Lagos Airport, Arrest 52-Year-Old Suspect
The Nigeria Police Force has foiled an alleged fraud worth ₦17.03 million involving imported goods from Canada, following the arrest of a 52-year-old suspect at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The suspect, Moshood Olayinka, was arrested by operatives of the Airport Command after a complaint was lodged on December 4, 2025, over a suspicious shipment traced to Canada and destined for Lagos.
According to police findings, Olayinka allegedly obtained goods valued at 16,000 Canadian dollars from Duplicom Business Products Ltd in Canada by using fraudulent credit card details.
The shipment reportedly included 12 NEC projectors and 12 Automatic External Defibrillators (AED Plus), with a total naira value of ₦17,032,160.
Police sources revealed that although the full transaction was valued at $16,000 CAD, only $4,000 CAD was successfully processed before the transaction was flagged as fraudulent. By then, the items had already been released to a Canada-based shipping company for onward delivery to Nigeria.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, said she ordered a discreet, intelligence-driven investigation immediately the complaint was received, leading to the interception of the consignment and the arrest of the suspect.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
