Planned Defection: Tinubu Meets With Three PDP Senators From Kebbi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa with three senators from Kebbi State who are reportedly finalizing plans to defect from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers—Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Senator Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South)—were accompanied by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, for the meeting.
Also present were Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, and Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, alongside other key stakeholders within the ruling party.
This meeting comes amid a wave of high-profile defections from the PDP to the APC, raising concerns about the growing dominance of the ruling party. Just recently, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and several loyalists also joined the APC—a move that sparked nationwide debate over the threat of a one-party system.
In response to mounting criticism, the presidency has denied claims that the country is heading towards a one-party state, maintaining that defections are part of a dynamic democratic process.
