Peter Obi’s Possible Return to PDP Unsettles ADC Ahead of 2027

Speculation is growing that Peter Obi may return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2027 presidential election. This move, if confirmed, could disrupt the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The rumour gained traction after Ali Modu Sheriff, former Borno governor, claimed during an interview on Channels TV that intelligence suggests Obi is seriously considering a PDP comeback.
“Peter Obi wants to be President. Atiku has been Vice President—he’s now all in for the presidency,” Sheriff said.
Obi, who was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in 2019 under PDP, left the party in 2022 to contest the 2023 election as Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, Prof. Jerry Gana, a PDP founding member, confirmed that the party is reaching out to Obi and other former members, though formal negotiations haven’t started. Gana leads the PDP committee tasked with reuniting aggrieved party members.
> “We are moving step by step,” he stated, revealing he had personally met Obi and his close associates.
