Peter Obi Slams Politicians’ Focus On 2027 Elections Despite Rising Insecurity
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised Nigerian politicians for concentrating on the 2027 general elections while insecurity continues to worsen across the country.
Obi expressed concern over the growing cases of violence, kidnappings and killings in various parts of Nigeria, warning that political calculations should not take precedence over the safety and well-being of citizens.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, the former Anambra State governor lamented what he described as the misplaced priorities of political leaders, noting that discussions about future elections have dominated public discourse instead of urgent solutions to insecurity.
According to him, the primary responsibility of government at all levels is the protection of lives and property, stressing that Nigerians are more concerned about safety, economic stability and access to basic services than campaign strategies for 2027.
Obi urged leaders to channel their energy toward strengthening security architecture, supporting security agencies, and implementing practical measures to curb the wave of kidnappings and violent attacks affecting communities nationwide.
He further called for collaborative efforts among federal and state authorities, security agencies and local stakeholders to address the root causes of insecurity, including unemployment and poverty.
The remarks come amid renewed political alignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 elections, even as security challenges persist in several regions of the country.
