Peter Obi Risks Losing Labour Party Presidential Ticket – Party Secretary

Factional National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Umar Farouk, has warned that Peter Obi may lose the party’s 2027 presidential ticket if he continues his alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking in an interview with Trust TV, Farouk stated that the LP ticket is open to all and not reserved for any individual. He noted that Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 election, is equally qualified to contest for president under the party.
“Datti is as qualified as Peter Obi. If he wants to contest, he should come, buy the form, and compete like everyone else,” Farouk said.
He cautioned that any aspirant associating with other political parties might be disqualified, stressing that “you can’t have one leg in LP and another elsewhere.”
Farouk’s comments follow Baba-Ahmed’s recent expression of interest in the 2027 presidency, although he maintained support for Obi, saying he deserves another shot.
