Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the party to make deliberate efforts to reconcile with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Friday, Sowunmi said it is crucial for the PDP to bring Obi back into its fold, especially as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

Peter Obi had left the PDP in May 2022, citing corruption during the party’s presidential primary, including allegations of bribery and vote buying. He also accused a powerful internal clique of working against his candidacy.

Reflecting on the 2023 election, Sowunmi highlighted that Obi, a former PDP member from the South-East, secured 6.2 million votes, making him a significant political force.

“Any deep-thinking, fair-minded Nigerian in the PDP must realise that the next logical step is to start the conversation on how to bring Peter Obi back,” Sowunmi stated. “The energy behind him is organic and cannot be ignored.”
