A factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has moved to challenge a bench warrant issued for his arrest by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The court had earlier ordered Turaki’s arrest following his failure to appear for arraignment in a criminal case filed against him by the Nigeria Police. The development prompted legal action from his team, seeking to overturn or stay the execution of the arrest order.
Sources familiar with the case said Turaki’s counsel is contesting the circumstances surrounding the issuance of the bench warrant, arguing that due process was not properly followed. The legal team is expected to present arguments urging the court to reconsider the order and allow the matter to proceed under revised conditions.
The case forms part of ongoing legal proceedings involving the PDP chieftain, with attention now focused on how the court will respond to the appeal and the next steps in the trial process.
Legal analysts note that failure to honour court summons can lead to such enforcement measures, but appeals may be considered where procedural or substantive concerns are raised.
Observers say the development adds another layer to the internal and legal challenges facing the opposition party as it navigates political and judicial issues.
