Oyedele admits errors in new tax laws, assures swift correction
The Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, has acknowledged that Nigeria’s newly introduced tax reform laws contain errors, assuring that corrective measures are already underway.
Oyedele made this known during a fireside chat at the 2026 annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Section on Legal Practice, where he addressed concerns raised by stakeholders.
He admitted that while the reforms were designed to improve the country’s tax system and boost revenue generation, certain provisions require adjustments to ensure clarity, fairness and effective implementation.
According to the minister, the government is committed to working closely with legal experts and relevant stakeholders to identify and correct the issues promptly.
He emphasised that the goal of the reforms remains to create a more efficient, transparent and business-friendly tax environment that supports economic growth.
Observers say the admission reflects a willingness by the government to refine its policies, while highlighting the importance of stakeholder engagement in shaping effective legislation.
