The Federal Government has announced the successful conviction of over 730 individuals for terrorism-related offences, as part of intensified efforts to counter terrorism financing and dismantle illicit financial networks.

Major General Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), disclosed this on Monday during an on-site meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in Abuja.

According to Laka, more than 90 of the convictions were achieved with direct support from the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), highlighting the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration.

> “Disrupting the financial lifelines of terrorist organisations is central to our national counterterrorism strategy,” he stated, affirming Nigeria’s strong commitment and ongoing cooperation with both domestic and international partners, including the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Laka further praised the role of the Joint Standard Investigation Committee on Terrorism Financing, describing it as crucial in enhancing Nigeria’s investigative and prosecutorial capabilities in complex financial crimes.
