Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has commended the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for its plan to digitise the asset declaration process, describing the move as a step in the right direction toward transparency and accountability in public service.
Speaking on the initiative, Otti noted that adopting digital systems aligns with global best practices and will enhance efficiency, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and minimise opportunities for manipulation in the declaration process.
According to him, a digitised platform would make it easier for public officials to comply with asset declaration requirements while also strengthening oversight and monitoring by relevant authorities.
The governor emphasised that transparency in asset declaration is critical to promoting integrity in governance and rebuilding public trust in institutions.
He also urged the CCB to ensure that the system is secure, user-friendly and accessible, while maintaining strict data protection standards.
Observers say the proposed reform could significantly improve compliance levels and modernise one of Nigeria’s key accountability mechanisms.
