Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said his administration is sustaining the state through transparency and prudent management of resources despite the suspension of monthly allocations to local governments.

Speaking in Ilesa on Thursday during the free enrollment of inmates from the state’s two correctional centres into the Osun Health Insurance Scheme, Adeleke expressed optimism that the ongoing local government crisis would soon be resolved in line with the rule of law and the constitution.

The governor explained that his government had taken steps to improve healthcare and general welfare for residents, noting that inmates were also citizens whose health must not be neglected.

“Today, we are extending healthcare coverage to correctional centre inmates as part of our commitment to the well-being of every segment of society,” Adeleke said.

He added that many had wondered how the government was able to keep projects running despite financial constraints in recent months. “The answer is simple: we believe in God, embrace transparency, and practise priority spending. We have improved our internally generated revenue and carefully manage our special project account,” he said.

Earlier, the Controller of Corrections in Osun, Rotimi Olalekan, commended the governor for approving the enrollment of 1,200 inmates into the health insurance scheme. He also appealed to the state government to provide additional facilities such as barbed wire around prison fences, CCTV cameras for surveillance, and a solar power system to ensure reliable electricity supply in correctional centres.
