The Osun State Government has accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) of attempting to divert funds meant for the state’s local governments into private accounts.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dosu Babatunde, the state claimed the rushed plan to disburse statutory funds was an attempt to undermine ongoing legal proceedings at the Supreme Court.

“This move is sad, unfortunate, and unconstitutional,” Babatunde stated. “Paying public funds into private accounts clearly violates financial regulations.”

According to the government, once the plan came to its attention, it acted swiftly. The Office of the Auditor General for Local Governments sent a letter to the CBN, officially introducing the proper financial officers for all 30 local governments—Heads of Local Government Administrations (HLAs) and Directors of Finance—to ensure due process.
