Oriyomi Hamzat, a prominent Ibadan-based broadcaster and public figure, has announced his decision to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State on the platform of the Accord Party.

Hamzat made the declaration publicly, stating that he would no longer campaign for, or mobilise support on behalf of, any political aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections. According to him, his focus will be solely on pursuing his own political ambition and offering himself for service to the people of Oyo State.

“I am publicly declaring today that in 2027, I will not campaign for anyone or mobilize crowds for anyone. I will contest in the gubernatorial election under the Accord Party,” Hamzat said.

The media entrepreneur, who is widely known for his grassroots influence and philanthropic activities, said his decision was driven by a desire to bring purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance to the state. He noted that years of engagement with residents across communities have exposed him to the challenges facing ordinary citizens, including insecurity, unemployment, and inadequate social services.

Hamzat emphasized that his aspiration is not based on personal ambition alone, but on what he described as a “call to service” inspired by the yearnings of the people. He added that the Accord Party provides a credible platform for his vision of inclusive governance, transparency, and development at the grassroots level.

Political observers say Hamzat’s declaration could reshape the political landscape in Oyo State, given his popularity, media reach, and strong connection with market women, youths, artisans, and other grassroots groups. His entry into the race is expected to intensify early permutations ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

While the Accord Party leadership is yet to formally react to the announcement, party supporters have welcomed the move, describing it as a bold step that could offer voters an alternative choice in the next election.

Hamzat assured his supporters that he would unveil detailed policy plans and begin wider consultations across the state in due course.
