The Olubadan of Ibadanland has received a report from a committee set up to address the growing menace of land grabbing in the city, with recommendations for stronger legal measures to curb the practice.

The committee reportedly proposed the establishment of a comprehensive legal framework, including the creation of special tribunals to handle land-related disputes swiftly and deter illegal activities.

According to the recommendations, stricter enforcement of existing laws and clearer documentation processes would help reduce conflicts and protect legitimate landowners from encroachment and fraud.

The monarch emphasised the need for urgent action, noting that land grabbing has become a major concern affecting peace, investment and development in Ibadan and surrounding areas.

He also called for collaboration between traditional institutions, government authorities and security agencies to effectively implement the proposed measures.

Stakeholders say the move could bring lasting solutions to persistent land disputes if backed by legislation and proper enforcement.

Observers note that addressing land grabbing is critical to maintaining order and encouraging real estate development in the region.
