Ogun APC Gov Ticket: ‘I’m Very Confident of My Popularity’ — Iyabo Obasanjo
A governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Iyabo Obasanjo, has expressed strong confidence in her chances of securing the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interaction with party stakeholders and supporters, Obasanjo said her political strength lies in the goodwill she has built over the years through public service, insisting that her popularity across the state is genuine and not driven by financial inducement.
According to her, the experience she gained while serving as Ogun State Commissioner for Health and later as a senator has positioned her as a credible candidate capable of providing purposeful leadership. She noted that her track record in public office remains her greatest selling point as the race for the APC governorship ticket gathers momentum.
Obasanjo further emphasised that the political landscape in Ogun State is gradually shifting toward performance-based leadership, adding that party members and the electorate are increasingly prioritising competence, accountability, and proven capacity to deliver development.
She also called on party leaders to ensure a transparent and inclusive primary process, stressing that internal democracy would strengthen the APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.
As preparations for the polls intensify, political observers say the contest for the APC ticket in Ogun State is expected to attract several influential aspirants, setting the stage for a keenly contested primary.
