Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has clarified that his scheduled trip to Germany is strictly for official engagements aimed at strengthening the state’s partnership with construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, and not for leisure purposes.

Oborevwori, who is expected to depart for Germany on Tuesday, said the visit would focus on deepening technical collaboration and securing improved project terms to benefit Delta residents.

Speaking in Asaba on Monday through the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and cost-effective project execution.

Aniagwu explained that the visit would enable the governor to negotiate better deals for the state in its ongoing infrastructure development efforts.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, myself, and the Technical Assistant to the Governor will depart for Germany for a working visit,” Aniagwu said. “The purpose is to strengthen our partnership with Julius Berger. His Excellency is known for his negotiation skills, and this visit will help secure more favourable terms that will benefit Delta State. It is not a leisure trip but part of the administration’s continuous drive for effective project delivery and cost efficiency.”

He noted that previous international engagements had yielded significant results, citing the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover in Ughelli along the Warri–Patani Expressway as examples.

Aniagwu also disclosed that the governor has directed all ministries and agencies involved in the upcoming empowerment programmes—scheduled to begin next month—to ensure transparency and fairness across all 25 local government areas.

He said the empowerment initiatives are designed to create sustainable livelihoods, enhance productivity, and support grassroots development throughout the state.
