Fresh tensions have emerged within the African Democratic Congress-led coalition after a leaked memo revealed growing dissatisfaction from the Obidient Movement over alleged marginalisation in decision-making processes.

The coalition, unveiled on July 2, 2025, was formed to present a united opposition front against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. Key figures present at the launch included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former SGF Babachir Lawal, among others.

Despite being instrumental to the political bloc, the Obidient Movement claims its members have been sidelined. In a memo dated July 29 and signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the movement accused coalition leaders of excluding its members from key meetings.

“Our people are deliberately excluded at all levels,” the memo stated. “This creates an impression of marginalisation and undermines trust, which is essential for building a sustainable partnership.”

Although Obi has not officially joined the ADC, the party had granted him and El-Rufai waivers to remain in their legacy parties for now, according to interim publicity secretary Bolaji Abdullahi.
