Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has said that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi will not emerge as either the presidential or vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Bwala made the claim while reacting to growing speculations suggesting that Obi could contest the next presidential election on the ADC platform following ongoing political realignments among opposition figures.

According to Bwala, available political indicators show that the former Labour Party presidential candidate is exploring other political options and platforms, insisting that the ADC is not part of Obi’s current political calculations.

He further argued that while coalition talks and cross-party engagements are ongoing in Nigeria’s political space, Peter Obi’s political ambition is likely to be pursued under a different arrangement entirely.

Bwala’s comments come amid heightened discussions about possible mergers and alliances involving opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. Several political actors have been linked to the ADC, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and other platforms as potential vehicles for future contests.

Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the Labour Party platform, has not officially announced his next political move, fueling speculation among supporters and political analysts.

Despite the rumours, Bwala maintained that Obi would neither pick the ADC as his platform nor accept a vice-presidential slot under the party, stressing that his next move would be “different from what is currently being speculated.”

As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi and the ADC leadership have not issued any official response to Bwala’s claims.
