The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, has assured that corps members across the country are protected under a comprehensive insurance scheme designed to safeguard their welfare throughout the service year.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued by the scheme’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, who disclosed that Nafiu made the remarks in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Ndace.

According to the NYSC chief, the insurance package provides coverage for corps members against unforeseen risks that may arise during their national assignment. He noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the scheme to prioritise the safety and well-being of participants.

Nafiu emphasised that the NYSC management remains committed to strengthening welfare measures, including improving accommodation, enhancing security coordination and ensuring prompt response to emergencies involving corps members.

He also urged corps members to remain law-abiding and adhere to safety guidelines in their respective places of primary assignment, stressing that cooperation with local authorities and security agencies is essential.

During the visit, both organisations reportedly discussed areas of collaboration aimed at promoting national unity, youth development and effective dissemination of information about government programmes.

Observers say the reassurance may help address concerns among prospective and serving corps members regarding safety and support structures during the mandatory service period.
