Not Seeking to Make Nigeria a One-Party State – Felix Morka

Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has refuted claims that the ruling party is working towards transforming Nigeria into a one-party state.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Thursday, Morka addressed the ongoing wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC. He clarified that the influx of new members should not be misinterpreted as an attempt to dismantle Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
He drew comparisons to the era when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) controlled over 28 states, yet was not accused of undermining the political system. “There’s nothing wrong with members of the PDP or Labour Party joining the APC if they believe in our policies and vision,” Morka said.
According to him, many defectors are simply seeking to be part of a governance process they resonate with, and their decisions should not be viewed as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic structure.
Morka firmly stated that the APC respects Nigeria’s constitutional framework, which guarantees a pluralistic political system. “Our Constitution, the Electoral Act, and other laws affirm that Nigeria is a multi-party democracy. The idea of a one-party state is not only unconstitutional but would require an almost impossible amendment process,” he explained.
