Former federal lawmakers from northern Nigeria are currently divided over the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following a recent endorsement by the Northern Caucus Forum of the 9th National Assembly.

The endorsement came after a dialogue session convened by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of ongoing nationwide consultations in support of Tinubu’s 2027 second-term campaign. The caucus, in a communiqué signed by Rufai Chanchangi—a former member of the 8th House of Representatives—declared its support, describing Tinubu as a national figure committed to equitable development across Nigeria’s regions.

Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, urged the forum to back Tinubu’s leadership, noting that his administration had brought inclusive development and reforms that benefited all parts of the country, including the North.

“President Tinubu is not just a leader from the South; he is a national leader. His administration has ensured equitable development through critical infrastructure and policy reforms that include the North,” Gbajabiamila stated.

In its communiqué, the Northern Caucus Forum emphasized the need for political stability and continuity, asserting that the South should complete its turn in the power rotation for the sake of national unity.
