Governors of Nigeria’s North-West region have agreed on a new regional security blueprint aimed at tackling persistent insecurity and strengthening socio-economic development across their states.
The decision was reached after a high-level meeting involving state leaders and security stakeholders, where discussions focused on coordinated strategies to address challenges such as banditry, kidnapping and communal conflicts affecting the region.
According to officials, the blueprint outlines plans for improved intelligence sharing, joint security operations and enhanced collaboration between state governments and federal security agencies. It also emphasises community engagement as a critical component in identifying and preventing criminal activities.
The governors noted that insecurity has significantly impacted agricultural productivity, trade and overall economic growth in the North-West, stressing the need for a unified and proactive approach to restoring stability.
In addition to security measures, the initiative is expected to incorporate socio-economic interventions aimed at addressing underlying factors contributing to unrest, including unemployment and poverty.
Security analysts say regional cooperation could improve response efficiency and strengthen efforts to combat criminal networks operating across state boundaries.
The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively to ensure lasting peace and development in the region.
