Ahead of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for Thursday, July 24, the North-Central APC Forum has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and party leaders to ensure that the position of the party’s National Chairman is returned to the North-Central region.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the group emphasized that restoring the chairmanship to the North-Central is not only fair but in line with the party’s established zoning arrangement. The statement was issued in Abuja in anticipation of key deliberations expected to take place at the NEC meeting.

Alhaji Zazzaga, a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 elections, noted that the North-Central zone has made significant contributions to the growth and success of the party. He warned that sidelining the region would amount to a betrayal of its loyalty and sacrifices.

“The North-Central has always played a critical role in the development and stability of our great party,” the statement read. “Denying the region the opportunity to retain the National Chairmanship position would be deeply disappointing and unjust.”

The chairmanship position became vacant following the resignation of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, former governor of Kano State, who stepped down on June 27, 2025. Ganduje had been appointed in August 2023 to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu, former governor of Nasarawa State, who resigned in July 2023 before completing his tenure.

Currently, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori from Borno State, is serving as the acting National Chairman.
