Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s North Central zone have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

The endorsement was reportedly reached during a strategic meeting involving party stakeholders, political office holders and grassroots leaders from states in the zone. Participants at the meeting expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, citing ongoing infrastructure projects, economic reforms and political stability as reasons for their support.

According to party officials, the decision is aimed at strengthening unity within the APC and positioning the party for a strong outing in the next election cycle. They maintained that adopting a consensus candidate early would help minimise internal disputes and allow members to focus on mobilisation and governance.

Speakers at the gathering also emphasised the importance of consolidating the administration’s policies and ensuring continuity of development programmes across the country. They urged party members at all levels to remain committed to the ideals of internal democracy and collective responsibility.

The North Central zone, which comprises Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, has historically played a strategic role in national elections. Party leaders said their endorsement reflects growing confidence among stakeholders in the region regarding the APC’s prospects in 2027.

While the party is yet to formally conduct its presidential primaries, insiders noted that similar consultations and endorsements may take place in other geopolitical zones in the coming months as preparations for the election intensify.
