President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in Owerri, Imo State, dismissed claims of religious genocide in Nigeria, insisting that “no faith is under siege.”

Speaking at the unveiling of a book on a decade of APC governance authored by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Tinubu warned against attempts to sow division in the country, describing such allegations as “unfounded and misleading.”

“Nigeria is a proud, sovereign nation built on the faith and resilience of its people. Here, no faith is under siege, no community is excluded. Our churches, mosques, and traditional shrines stand side by side—not as rivals, but as symbols of the unity that binds us,” the President said at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Convention Centre.

His remarks followed comments by American comedian and political commentator Bill Maher, who alleged on his show that Christians in Nigeria were being systematically killed. Tinubu refuted the claims, stressing that Nigeria would not accept “lectures from outsiders” seeking to profit from division.

“We are Nigerians, and we will stand together. Our diversity is not our weakness, but our strength. Our duty is to stand guard over our unity, protect every citizen, and continue to prove to the world that our diversity is our strength,” he declared.

Reflecting on the All Progressives Congress’ decade in power, Tinubu maintained that Nigeria was better off than in 2015 when the party took over. He credited his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, with stabilising the country through investments in infrastructure, fighting terrorism, and promoting accountability in public finance.

“Were there challenges? Yes. Were mistakes made? Yes. But no one can deny that the direction of Nigeria changed for good,” he said, adding that the APC remained purposeful, valuing productivity over handouts.
