The leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has revealed that no date has been fixed for its next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, where the fate of members accused of anti-party activities—including the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi—will be decided.

This was disclosed in an exclusive interview with Sunday PUNCH by the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Ayo Olorunfemi.

The clarification follows recent comments by LP factional National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, who on Channels Television’s Morning Brief last Tuesday said that Obi would soon be expelled from the party for allegedly working against its interest.

Arabambi accused Obi of violating party rules by supporting the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that it is unconstitutional for a politician to belong to two parties at once.

Despite his involvement in the formation of the ADC coalition, Obi has maintained that he remains a committed member of the Labour Party.

Olorunfemi stressed that critical decisions, including possible expulsions, can only be formally taken during a NEC meeting, and that no date has yet been scheduled for such deliberations.
