NNPP Factions Clash Over Expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been thrown into fresh crisis following the expulsion of a member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State.
A faction loyal to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced Jibrin’s expulsion on Saturday, accusing him of anti-party activities and failure to remit mandatory party dues. The announcement was made by the faction’s chairman, Hashim Dungurawa.
But in a swift reaction, another faction of the party led by Jibrin Doguwa dismissed the action as illegal, insisting that he remains the authentic state chairman of the NNPP. Doguwa argued that the decision was taken without due process and would not stand in court.
“What Kofa (Jibrin) said in his interview was not anti-party. Every politician has the right to switch platforms. Even President Bola Tinubu moved across parties before becoming who he is today,” Doguwa said, while defending the lawmaker.
He accused Dungurawa of exceeding his powers and threatened legal action if the expulsions continue.
Jibrin himself, speaking on Channels Television earlier in the week, had hinted at a possible defection from the NNPP, saying he was free to return to the APC, PDP, or even another party.
