Nigerians may begin to experience noticeable improvement in electricity supply within the next two weeks, following ongoing efforts to restore gas availability to power generation plants across the country.
An aide to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed that recent power outages affecting several parts of the nation were largely linked to maintenance work on critical gas pipelines that supply fuel to thermal power stations. According to the official, the repairs are nearing completion, raising optimism that generation capacity will soon return to normal levels.
The aide explained that the disruption had significantly reduced electricity output, forcing distribution companies to implement load-shedding across many states. However, once the gas supply is fully restored, generation companies are expected to ramp up production, which will in turn improve electricity distribution to homes and businesses.
Authorities also assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is working closely with relevant stakeholders in the power and gas sectors to prevent a recurrence of such widespread outages. Measures under consideration include strengthening infrastructure maintenance schedules, enhancing coordination between agencies, and fast-tracking long-term reforms aimed at stabilising the energy sector.
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the recent blackout, the government urged citizens to remain patient, expressing confidence that improved supply will gradually be felt nationwide as repairs are completed and operational capacity increases.
