Reactions have continued to pour in following the unveiling of the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The creation of the broad alliance, which brings together several influential political figures, has sparked intense national debate at a time when Nigeria’s democracy faces mounting scrutiny—from concerns over electoral credibility to calls for deeper inclusiveness and accountability.

With the new alignment, many Nigerians are keen to see how the coalition might reshape the country’s political landscape and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election.

According to DAILY POST, the coalition adopted the ADC as its political platform, installing former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman and former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary.

However, within just 24 hours of its launch in Abuja, a major faction of the party voiced strong opposition to the move.

In a statement, the faction’s national publicity secretary, Musa Isa Matara, condemned what he described as an attempt by political elites to “hijack” the ADC, stressing that the party “is not a private coalition platform” and warning that the adoption was done unilaterally without consultation with critical stakeholders.
