Nigeria making progress under Tinubu, says Gowon
Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), has said Nigeria is gradually making progress under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the administration’s policies are beginning to address some of the country’s long-standing challenges.
Gowon made the remarks while speaking at a public event where he assessed the current state of the nation and the efforts of the Federal Government to stabilise the economy and improve governance. He acknowledged that the country was facing difficult times but urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive of ongoing reforms.
According to him, the Tinubu administration has demonstrated commitment to tackling issues such as economic restructuring, security concerns, and infrastructural development. He said while the results may not be immediate, sustained policy implementation and cooperation among stakeholders would yield positive outcomes.
Gowon also emphasised the need for unity and patience among citizens, stressing that national development requires collective sacrifice and understanding. He called on political leaders, civil society groups, and the private sector to work together in supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and boosting economic growth.
The former military ruler further advised young Nigerians to remain actively engaged in nation-building efforts, urging them to channel their energy into productive ventures that would contribute to the country’s progress.
His comments come amid mixed reactions from various quarters over the impact of recent government reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and monetary policy adjustments. While some analysts have pointed to early signs of improvement in certain sectors, others continue to express concern over rising living costs and social pressures.
Nevertheless, Gowon maintained that with consistent leadership and public cooperation, Nigeria could overcome its current challenges and move towards a more stable and prosperous future.
