Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has declared a renewed offensive against banditry and related criminal activities, warning that individuals who provide information or support to armed groups will face strict consequences.

The governor made the declaration while addressing security stakeholders and community leaders, stressing that the state government is determined to restore peace and safeguard lives and property across affected areas.

According to him, the planned security operation will involve enhanced collaboration between security agencies, local authorities and vigilante groups. He noted that new strategies, including the deployment of advanced tracking and intelligence-gathering technologies, would be utilised to identify and dismantle criminal networks operating within the state.

Bago also urged residents to cooperate with security operatives by sharing credible information that could aid ongoing efforts to combat banditry. He reassured communities that the government would continue to provide logistical and operational support to security forces to ensure the success of the initiative.

The governor emphasised that addressing insecurity remains a top priority for his administration, adding that restoring stability is essential for agricultural productivity, economic growth and overall development in Niger State.

Security analysts say intensified operations could help reduce attacks on rural communities if sustained coordination and community engagement are maintained.
