NEC reinstates Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at its 100th meeting held in Abuja on Monday, has officially reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
Announcing the decision to journalists after the meeting, the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, confirmed that Anyanwu has been returned to his position. Damagum also disclosed that the party has scheduled its 101st NEC meeting for July 23, where arrangements for the upcoming national convention are expected to be finalised.
The PDP has faced persistent internal crises since the 2023 presidential election, leading to deepening divisions across its leadership. The situation worsened on June 24 when the party leadership wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the office of the National Secretary, further fueling tensions.
In an effort to resolve the crisis, Damagum convened a meeting on Sunday at Wadata Plaza. Present at the meeting were Senator Samuel Anyanwu; the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); the Vice Chairman (North West), Senator Bello Gwarzo; and two other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The group collectively reaffirmed their support for convening an expanded National Caucus meeting at 2 p.m. on Monday and reiterated their recognition of Anyanwu as the party’s duly elected National Secretary.
