Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Set to Defy Senate Suspension Today

Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, is expected to return to the National Assembly today, despite the Senate’s insistence that her six-month suspension remains active and legally binding.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was suspended in March 2025, disclosed during a weekend training programme in her constituency that she had notified the Senate of her decision to resume duties on Tuesday, July 22.
> “I still have about two months left on the suspension. However, I have written to the Senate again, informing them of my intention to resume on the 22nd, by the special grace of God,” she told journalists.
“The court has made a decision on the matter. Whether it’s interpreted as an order or not, it’s still a judicial decision.”
She noted that although her suspension did not stop her from executing constituency projects, it restricted her core legislative responsibilities, including sponsoring bills and moving motions.
Backing her claim, her legal counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, West Idahosa, stated that the recent court judgment made it clear that the suspension exceeded constitutional limits.
