Nasarawa Senator Onawo Dumps PDP Cites Personal Reasons for Exit
Ogoshi Onawo, the senator representing Nasarawa State South, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing personal reasons for his decision.
In a resignation letter dated and addressed to the chairman of the PDP in his ward, Onawo said his decision to leave the party was taken after deep reflection and careful consideration. He did not, however, disclose specific details behind the move, describing the reasons simply as personal.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. This decision is based on personal reasons after due consultations,” the letter read in part.
The senator expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members for the support he received during his time in the PDP, noting that the platform gave him the opportunity to serve his constituents at both state and national levels.
Onawo, a former speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, was elected to the Senate on the platform of the PDP to represent Nasarawa South. His exit is expected to further reshape the political landscape in the state, especially ahead of future electoral contests.
While the senator has not announced his next political move, his resignation has sparked speculation about a possible defection to another party or a temporary withdrawal from partisan politics.
As of the time of filing this report, the PDP leadership in Nasarawa State had yet to issue an official response to Onawo’s resignation.
The development adds to a growing list of high-profile defections and resignations that have continued to affect Nigeria’s major political parties in recent months.
