Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has directed the enrollment of all political appointees into the state’s health insurance scheme, JICHMA, in a move to strengthen universal health coverage and improve access to healthcare services.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bala Ibrahim, during a formal launch ceremony in his office. He stated that amendments had been made to the JICHMA law to include political officeholders in the scheme.

> “The governor has led by example, ensuring public officials benefit from the same health protections offered to the people,” Ibrahim said.

To demonstrate leadership, Ibrahim and the Chief of Staff, Senator Mujitaba Muhammad, became the first appointees to register under the scheme.

Healthcare Access Expanded

Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, revealed that JICHMA has already enrolled 500 vulnerable individuals from each of the 287 political wards in the state.

> “These beneficiaries are digitally selected and their details stored in a central database,” he explained.

Hamza Maigari, Executive Secretary of JICHMA, confirmed that preparations have been completed for the enrollment of political appointees across all 27 local government areas.
