Man Sentenced in Lagos for Naira Abuse

On May 23, 2025, the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos sentenced Okoli Frank Emeka to six months imprisonment for trampling on Naira notes during a party. He pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of currency mutilation under the Central Bank Act, 2007.
The offence occurred on August 18, 2024, at Al-moruf Garden in Isheri Olofin, where Emeka was seen in a viral video spraying and stomping on N2 million worth of Naira notes. The EFCC arrested him on May 15, 2025, after a surveillance operation. The court admitted the video and his confession as evidence.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke handed down the sentence with an option of a N250,000 fine.
