An aide to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed claims by former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose that President Bola Tinubu donated ₦50 billion to support victims of the recent Ibadan explosion.
The aide described Fayose’s assertion as misleading and unsubstantiated, insisting that such a huge financial intervention should be backed with verifiable evidence rather than political rhetoric.
Reacting to the claim, the Makinde aide challenged Fayose to publicly present official documents or credible proof to support the alleged donation, stressing that the Oyo State Government has so far relied on transparent processes and confirmed assistance channels in managing the aftermath of the Ibadan incident.
According to the aide, spreading unverified figures risks misinforming the public and politicising a tragic event, adding that relief efforts should remain focused on victims rather than partisan point-scoring.
The exchange has further exposed deepening internal tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with party figures increasingly trading words in public over national and regional political issues.
As of the time of filing this report, no official confirmation has been issued by the Presidency regarding the alleged ₦50bn donation.
