Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has assured residents that the culture of good governance entrenched by his administration will continue even after his tenure ends in May 2027.

Makinde gave the assurance on Sunday during a Thanksgiving Service marking the ongoing 50th anniversary of Oyo State, held at the Cathedral of St. Peter’s, Aremo, Ibadan.

The governor said members of his administration, who have worked together to deliver good governance to the people, are well positioned to continue the task in various capacities beyond his time in office.

According to him, his administration remains committed to governing the state in line with the will and guidance of God, adding that solid foundations have been laid as Oyo State prepares to move into its next phase of development.

Makinde noted that the values of accountability, inclusiveness, and sustainable development introduced by his government would outlive his administration.

The governor had earlier inaugurated the Oyo State 50th anniversary celebrations on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The thanksgiving service was attended by family members of former governors, traditional and religious leaders, top government officials, and political stakeholders from across the state.

Oyo State, created on February 3, 1976, from the former Western Region, has Ibadan as its administrative capital.

The state government had earlier unveiled a week-long programme for the golden jubilee celebrations, featuring religious activities, cultural exhibitions, an awards and dinner night, and a public lecture titled “Consolidating the Legacy, Navigating the Present and Reimagining the Future.”

Makinde also appointed a former member of the House of Representatives, Saheed Fijabi, as chairman of the 11-member planning committee for the anniversary.
