Let’s Meet at the ADC Presidential Primary — Atiku Tells Obidients
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, popularly known as Obidients, to meet him at the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku made the appeal while addressing supporters and party stakeholders, urging opposition groups to focus on unity rather than internal divisions as preparations for the next election cycle gather momentum. According to him, the ADC platform provides a level playing field for all aspirants who share a common goal of rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges.
The former vice president said Nigeria’s opposition must avoid fragmentation if it hopes to present a credible alternative in 2027. He stressed that primaries, not social media battles or public exchanges, should be the proper avenue for determining leadership within a democratic setting.
Atiku’s message is widely seen as an open invitation to the Obidient movement and other opposition blocs to test their strength through the ADC’s internal democratic process. Political observers note that the statement underscores ongoing efforts to build a broad coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in the next general election.
Supporters of Peter Obi, who galvanised massive youth participation during the 2023 elections, have continued to push for political reforms and accountability, making them a key bloc in any future opposition alliance.
As discussions around party alignments and defections intensify, Atiku’s call has further fueled debate about the shape of the opposition ahead of 2027 and whether a united front can emerge.
