Senator Ahmad Lawan, representing Yobe North, has denied allegations that he was involved in the arrest of a constituent, Ishe’u Ibrahim Jadda, who criticized a water project in Gashua, Yobe State.

In a statement released on Saturday, Lawan’s media aide, Ezrel Tabiowo, dismissed the reports as false and malicious, stating that the senator has never used his position to suppress dissent or target critics.

> “Senator Ahmad Lawan, a former Senate President, has never used—and will never use—his influence to silence anyone. He respects free speech and democratic values,” Tabiowo said.

He explained that the Gashua water project, facilitated by Lawan, had already been completed and officially handed over to the Yobe State Government by the Federal Government. However, he did not specify whether the project is currently functional.

The statement criticized the media report as a calculated attempt to tarnish Lawan’s reputation, highlighting his commitment to transparency, accountability, and open dialogue throughout his career.

Tabiowo added that even as Senate President between 2019 and 2023, Lawan encouraged open debate and welcomed opposing views, despite facing frequent criticism.
