The Lagos State Government has awarded Grants-in-Aid to several women-focused non-governmental organisations under the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).

Speaking during the presentation ceremony at the ministry’s conference room in Alausa on Wednesday, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Dada, said the initiative reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups such as women, widows, and persons with disabilities.

Dada explained that the grants aim to strengthen collaboration with NGOs that share the government’s vision of women empowerment and social inclusion.

> “By funding these organisations, we ensure their programmes in skills training, advocacy, health awareness, and community support reach those who need them most,” she said.

She emphasised that government alone cannot tackle every social and economic challenge, adding that effective partnerships with credible NGOs are key to deepening impact across communities.

Permanent Secretary Rianat Onigbanjo described the event as a celebration of “partnership, purpose, and progress,” commending Governor Sanwo-Olu for turning compassion into action and applauding Dada’s leadership.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Folayemisi Adu, Executive Director of Hope Builders Skills Development and Acquisition Foundation, thanked the state government and pledged that the grants would be used to sustain ongoing empowerment projects for women at the grassroots.
