Kwara Reopens Schools as Security Forces Intensify Operations Against Bandits
The Kwara State Government has announced that schools across the state will reopen on Monday, following what it described as significant improvements in security after sustained operations against bandits and other criminal elements.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the state government said the decision was reached after a comprehensive security review involving intelligence reports and briefings from security agencies operating within Kwara and neighbouring states.
According to the government, recent joint operations by the military, police, and other security outfits have led to the disruption of criminal networks, clearance of hideouts, and improved safety in previously affected areas.
“Based on the appreciable improvement in the security situation, the Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of all schools,” the statement said.
The government assured parents, students, and school administrators that adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property, particularly around school premises. These measures include increased patrols, surveillance, and rapid-response arrangements.
It added that school authorities have been directed to work closely with local security formations and community leaders to ensure early reporting of suspicious activities and prompt response to any threats.
While acknowledging lingering concerns among parents, the state government urged calm, stressing that the safety of students and teachers remains a top priority.
The reopening follows weeks of intensified security actions targeting banditry and criminal activities, which had previously forced the closure of some schools as a precautionary measure.
The government reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum against insecurity, warning that security agencies will continue aggressive operations to prevent a resurgence of criminal activities.
Parents and guardians were advised to cooperate with school authorities and security agencies, while residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could aid ongoing operations.
