Kwara Massacre: Soldiers Came 10 Hours After Terrorists Had Killed Scores — Village Head
The village head of Woro in Kwara State, Umar Salihu, has revealed that soldiers arrived in the community nearly 10 hours after terrorists had launched a deadly attack, leaving scores of residents dead and large parts of the village destroyed.
Salihu disclosed that the attackers stormed Woro in the early hours, operating freely for several hours without resistance. According to him, the assailants went from house to house, killing residents, setting homes ablaze, and looting properties before eventually fleeing.
“They came in large numbers and attacked us for almost 10 hours,” the village head said. “We cried for help, but no security agency came until after they had finished killing our people and burning the village.”
He explained that residents were left helpless during the prolonged assault, forcing many to flee into nearby bushes and neighboring communities to escape death. Several houses were completely razed, while farmlands and food stores were destroyed.
Salihu added that security personnel, including soldiers, only arrived after the attackers had withdrawn, describing the response as “too late” to prevent the massive loss of lives and property.
The Kwara massacre has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians questioning the effectiveness and response time of security agencies, especially in rural communities that remain vulnerable to violent attacks.
The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army have yet to release an official statement detailing the casualty figures, but local sources claim that dozens of villagers were killed during the attack.
Community leaders and civil society groups have called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently overhaul security strategies, improve response times, and ensure permanent security presence in vulnerable rural areas.
As residents begin to count their losses, survivors are demanding justice for the victims and concrete action to prevent further attacks in Kwara and other parts of the country.
