Kukah laments insecurity, urges urgent action
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, calling for urgent and decisive action to address the situation.
In his Easter message, Kukah highlighted the growing challenges facing the country, including persistent violence, economic hardship and what he described as failures in leadership. He warned that the current state of insecurity continues to erode public confidence and deepen national anxiety.
According to the cleric, the government must take concrete steps to restore trust by prioritising the protection of lives and property, while also addressing the root causes of instability.
Kukah emphasised that Easter represents hope, renewal and sacrifice, urging leaders to reflect these values through responsible governance and commitment to the welfare of citizens.
He also called on Nigerians to remain united and resilient, stressing that collective effort is needed to overcome the country’s challenges.
Observers say his remarks reflect growing concern among religious and civic leaders about the direction of the country and the urgency of meaningful reforms.
