The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that the federal government will review the first seven days of implementing the newly introduced cashless payment system at Nigerian airports.

Keyamo made the disclosure in a post on X on Wednesday, stating that he and his team would assess how the policy has performed since it was introduced across airports nationwide. According to him, the review will help identify challenges, address loopholes, and improve the overall efficiency of the system.

The minister explained that the cashless initiative was introduced primarily to eliminate corruption, block revenue leakages, and enhance transparency in airport transactions. Under the new system, payments for services such as access fees, tolls, and other airport-related charges are expected to be made electronically rather than in cash.

Keyamo added that the federal government remains committed to ensuring the policy works effectively and delivers its intended benefits. He said feedback from passengers, airport users, and aviation stakeholders will also be considered during the review process.

The aviation minister further noted that the move forms part of broader efforts by the government to modernise airport operations, improve accountability, and optimise revenue generation within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Authorities say adjustments may be made where necessary after the review to ensure smoother implementation and better service delivery across all airports.
