Katsina Moves to Shield Children from Tobacco Risks

The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children from the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.
During a press briefing held in Katsina on Tuesday to mark World No Tobacco Day, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Musa Funtua, emphasized the urgent need to protect the younger generation from being targeted by tobacco companies.
“Protecting our children is non-negotiable,” Funtua declared. “A society that allows its youth to be exploited by profit-driven tobacco industries places its future in jeopardy.”
He noted that Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s administration remains dedicated to prioritizing public health and curbing tobacco use among minors.
Funtua called on all stakeholders—government agencies, civil society, the media, health professionals, educators, parents, and young people—to unite in rejecting tobacco and promoting healthier lifestyles.
“Let us choose health over harm, strength over addiction. Together, we can transform this message into a powerful movement,” he urged.
