Kanu’s release not a condition for South-East to back Tinubu in 2027 – Umahi

The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, says the South-East region has not set the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as a condition to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Friday night, Umahi dismissed reports that the South-East demanded Kanu’s release before backing Tinubu.
> “Somebody asked me about Nnamdi Kanu, and I said his matter is not a condition for the South-East to support the President,” Umahi said.
“We are willing to negotiate his release, but no one should make it a condition because the President did not put him there.”
Umahi described Tinubu as a listening leader, and expressed hope that Kanu’s release would happen through dialogue and God’s grace, rather than political pressure.
> “President Tinubu may not be perfect, but he is doing most things right,” Umahi added.
